Hello! Tell us about Kinky Boots ?
Kinky Boots is a fantastic comedy musical based on both the 2000s film and a true story! It tells the tale of Charlie Price who inherits a shoe factory from his father. Close to going out-of-business, he needs to find a new venture. He comes across Drag Queen Lola and the two form an unlikely friendship manufacturing boots for Drag Queens. It is a very uplifting musical, suitable for the whole family.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
We are looking forward to seeing lots of other musicals! We are also huge Drag fans ourselves and can’t wait to see both Myra Dubois and Jinx Monsoon.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
We have! We began in 2018 and this will be our third venture to Ed Fringe. Our key pieces of advice is to look after yourself and be kind to yourself. It is a long, exhausting journey and it can be really easy to focus on ticket sales or reviews. However, the joy of Fringe is in the connection with other artists and enjoying this fantastic city.
What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
Frisky and Mannish are always firm favourites. We also fell in love with Six the musical when it began in Fringe and it is so incredible to see the success now that Six is getting around the world.
Favourite song in the show and why?
‘Sex is in the Heel’ – it is such a fun song with incredible choreography!
What three items are essential for a successful Fringe?
A daily planner for all them shows, lots of tea and some flyers in your back pocket ready to go at any point.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
I always think the best way to enjoy yourself at Fringe is to meet lots of other like-minded people. I always want to connect with other musicals and cabaret acts, then go for a drink with them and see shows. I always think it is great to push yourself out of your comfort zone too – see things you wouldn’t normally see!
The best thing about performing at the fringe?
The buzz of live theatre and performing in front of people who are strangers from all over the world. It is incredible.
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
How tiring it can get. Sometimes you will be up very early to promote to media, then do flyering, prep for your show and then struggle to sleep with all the adrenaline after.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
Don’t lead with anything sale-sy. Just be passionate and chat about your show. It isn’t a sales pitch but a chance to excite others into why your show is great.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Any huge musical theatre stars. We’d love for Billy Porter or Matt Henry to see it!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Our social media handle is @bareproductions across most platforms
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Uplifting inspirational musical.
