Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Hi! I’m Lily a stand-up comedian from and based in London.
How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?
I figured it’s an hour of rude jokes so why lie to people! But I’ve been asking audience members recently if they know what the word means and two men at two separate shows have said to me ‘yeah it’s another word for slut right?’ God help us all.
Tell us all about your show!
It’s a show that was going to be about feminism but is now going to be about my dog. Ah so Smut must mean a slutty dog. No, still no.
I also talk about my previous jobs as a Disney Princess impersonator and a fish n chip shop model, GLAM I know.
It’s basically an hour of vagina jokes, with one poo joke thrown in for the LADS.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Patrick Spicer, Esther Manito, Viggo Ven, Josh Jones, Sikisa, Kate Barron and Josh Pugh! Also loads more, so don’t quote me on that..oh wait…
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Bring warm clothes! Don’t let the summer season fool you, it’s August but trust me you will freeze your tits off.
What have been some of your favourite shows to date and why?
I loved Janine Harouni’s show in 2019 it was annoyingly PERFECT.
Favourite one liner you have done in a show and why?
Here’s an Edinburgh themed one: I don’t hate the bagpipes I just think that if your period pains had a sound…
What three items are essential for a successful Fringe?
Umbrella, bumbag and an endless supply of croissants.
What have been some of the most unique and different comedy shows you have seen this year and why?
One Woman Show by Liz Kingsman was fabulously refreshing.
What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?
Try to do things outside of fringe on time off, my favs are daytime trips to the cinema and sipping tea at the chihuahua café. Don’t ask, just go.
The best thing about performing at the fringe?
You get to unashamedly immerse yourself in comedy for a month, with fellow comedy lovers, its great. Much better than boring family and friends with all your favourite bits from Seinfeld.
The most challenging thing about performing at the fringe?
It’s tiring and your mental health can suffer. Try to do some normal things to keep sane! I’m planning on swimming everyday. Cut to Lily swimming once for the whole month.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
No idea, I’ve never been good at it. But it’s definitely NOT to lie on the ground covered in your own flyers, people just think you’re weird and or dead.
Who would be your ultimate dream audience member?
Someone who laughs openly and then does a nice tweet. Word of mouth is so important at the fringe. Or maybe just…Channing Tatum?
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
I do insta mostly, and it’s mostly cat and dog vids, so if you’re into that follow me @lilyphillipscomedy
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Channing might come.
