The Travel Book – Olden, Norway

One of the places i had the delight of stopping off in when I was on a cruise in Norway was a beautiful little place called Olden. Located in the Municipality of Stryn in Sogn og Fjordane county, the village has only a population of 498.

A lot of people that were on the cruise decided to do excursions to nearby glaciers, or other tourist attractions, however we decided to keep it traditional and do something that a lot of people are against these days – walking.

The great thing about going to a place with a low population, means that there is a lot of places you can walk that are undamaged by buildings, so you can admire the nature and feel right at home. Even though it was a very wet day when we went to Olden, it was still rustically beautiful and we came across some really beautiful sites.

Are you a fan of the Nordic Noir shows such as Midnight Sun then you will love Olden as the visual area really looks like it has just come out of the screen, it is absolutely breathtaking. The area is surrounded by a fast travelling rivers, lakes, fjords and ever so often a helicopter will fly by giving people the view of the place!

I loved it there, so peaceful and the architecture when you do see it the buildings are so quaint such as the churches. There is Old Olden Church which was built in 1759 and Plden Church ahishbwas built in 1934.
