Hello! Tell us all about your show!
TAP OUT! (Or I’ll hit you again) is a show about humanity’s hard-wired instinct for violence, particularly as it ties into ‘being a man’. In the modern day, we’re meant to have moved past that need – we have the law and the courts to settle scores for us (and I can’t get into how well either of them work in this interview!) So what we do we do with those difficult feelings of rage and frustration? Where do we put them? And if we don’t take care of them, then they’ll find their own ways to surface. So the main character of the show does that through putting on a mask and starting fights … and it only goes downhill from there.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
‘That’s Ace’ by Jonny Brace, playing at Just The Tonic. The writer is a long-suffering friend of mine, and I’ve seen the show from it’s initial beginning as part of a Mountview Producer’s Showcase, to Vault Festival, to the King’s Head Theatre in London. So I’m excited to see how they shake it up – and reach new audiences. One to watch if you’re queer or a lover of Doctor Who, it’ll definitely be worth it.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This will be our first time at the Fringe. So we’re excited to be able to be apart of the festival and it’s atmosphere. But when it comes to producing theatre, one of the best piece’s advice we’ve ever been given is “use your ‘no’ to protect your ‘yes’.” Don’t say yes to every opportunity just because it’s open to you, you’ll know when the right thing comes along.
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
Experiencing the community that comes from the Fringe!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Having spent my time as a touring producer, I’ve become a little too familiar with living out of a suitcase. So I usually pack light. But as long as I have my laptop and my phone – I feel connected to the people back home, and know that no one is really that far away.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
