Every month we will take a look at the music videos of certain artists and bands more in depth to explore just why I love them.
I am a Video Editor – and one of the things (probably the main thing) that inspired me to work in television post production was actually music videos.
Music videos are one of my favourite things in the world and I spent hours and I MEAN literally hours when I was growing up watching them Even now in the modern world, I can find myself getting lost on YouTube watching music videos for hours on end – they are an addiction.
This month we are delving into the world of The Prodigy’s music. I grew up with their music and their style was so iconic that they really stood out. Some of their videos are phenomenal and I realised there was a lot of them I had not watched so I thought it would be good to take a look at this month.

Why did you choose this particular video?
This is such an iconic song and video, I remember it strongly from my childhood. It is sort of aggressive whilst also enjoyable which makes it very great. The thing I also adore about it is just how punk it feels and the cinematography really heights that.
So, what is the narrative?
The music video evolves around a run down block of flats and the band are singing in different rooms causing the walls to shake and the whole place to come alive.
Favourite parts of the video?
This most striking thing about this video is the lighting. It constantly flashes throughout which is the main reason this video feels so grungy. It brings a metaphor of ‘hell’ to the video. It also pushes the boundaries of making it very punk. It pushes the story through and makes it such a striking video to watch.
The colour grade of this video is what I would call ‘dirty’. It focusses on browns, oranges and bronzes by doing this, it creates a dark feel to the video. This works really well for this environments and it heightens the darkness of the visual.
The editing is quick, fast and pacey because the light is so extravagant, it feels like the editing takes a back seat and that is why it works so well. This is a video that you watch and once you have, you do not forget it.
