Hello! Tell us all about your show!

My solo show FURNITURE BOYS turns boyfriends into futons and lampshades, and breakups into broken chairs. A blend of theatre, comedy, clown, spoken word and furniture showroom, FURNITURE BOYS asks about the search for what endures: a relationship, a memory, a sofa-bed?

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Fellow Underbelly theatre shows CRUSH, PINK RABBIT, RIP HER TO SHREDS

Friends’ shows including Liz Coin’s LIZZY SUNSHINE, Recent Cutback’s KEVIN!!!!!, and Couplet’s FOLK MARRY KILL

IKEA WARS at Gilded Balloon (on theme for us)

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I didn’t expect to return with my show FURNITURE BOYS after our debut Edinburgh Fringe in 2025. But the Fringe was such a special, magical experience, and FURNITURE BOYS received such an incredible response from audiences and critical acclaim from reviewers (like 4 stars in The Guardian!), that when Underbelly invited FURNITURE BOYS back for 2026, we made it happen!

Advice to newcomers: Consider the props that will fit in your suitcase. (I managed to fit lots of furniture  into my suitcase – a lamp, a small grandfather clock, a blow-up couch!) Even when you are exhausted from performing every day, go see a show. It will inspire and invigorate you. Fringe is like theater camp, and the best part will be the people you meet – performers, audiences, strangers turned friends. (I made a great friend from her flyering her show to me on the street – always accept the flyer!) Let yourself learn about your show, learn about yourself, and be grateful for being a part of this amazing artistic community.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up and try to read or write before entering into the exciting chaos of the day. Coffee with my director (the fabulous Kate Doyle) to go over show notes from the day before. Run around with our prop of miniature furniture, “The Kyles,” shouting “the boys are furniture!” and handing out flyers in the hour before the show. Perform FURNITURE BOYS to the wonderful (and different – you never know what you’re going to get!) audience of that day. Meet some of the audience post-show (sometimes hugs, sometimes tears, always the most exciting to hear from them!). Lunch and a rest (ideally on the couch – it all comes back to furniture). Go see a show or two or three (or, especially towards the end, four or five!) Perhaps a drink at the Underbelly bar (but take care of your voice – it’s all happening tomorrow, again).

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

The falafel cart at Underbelly George Square.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The people, the people, the people! (And the furniture!)

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

Some of my collection of tiny chairs. I put a miniature chair on a chain and it has become a good luck necklace. To perform FURNITURE BOYS, I bring a whole suitcase full of furniture!

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Frozen meals from Tesco; charity shops for props; exchange comps with other artists to see each other’s shows.
