Hello! Tell us all about your show!

SMUT is a solo character comedy show with a little razzle dazzle. Former burlesque superstar Entendre Entendre invites you to the launch of her memoir — a recounting of her many, MANY lovers. The wild, weird, (and unfortunately true) tales are delivered through song, striptease, filthy poetry, scandalous storytelling, and audience interaction. As a cunning linguist, Entendre’s got jokes. She’ll also jiggle her bits, but if she’s not careful she may expose even more than she intends.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

A couple friends are premiering new shows that I cannot wait to see: We Had Fun at Summerhall and An A to Z Guide to Dating at Underbelly. Beyond that, I’m always in the market for comedy and clowning as well as shows that uplift underrepresented voices.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

Okay, I’m going to give this advice as if I’m Dr. Fringe writing a prescription, because it feels right: stay hydrated, take your vitamins, don’t stay out at Assembly Bar past 4 a.m., try to get SOME sleep. Flyer for two hours a day before your show (or hire someone if you can afford it — and vet them first), don’t overpromise yourself on shows because you won’t get to them all, take time for your mental health. Celebrate your wins. Celebrate other people’s wins. Treat your losses as learning experiences. Don’t forget to LIVE IN THE MOMENT because what we’re doing is absolutely wonderful and insane. And finally: take two of these and call me in the morning.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Morning: Arrive at my dorm from Assembly Bar sometime between 2-4:30 a.m. Try to get some semblance of a good night’s sleep. Curse myself for missing the early shows I wanted to see. Coffee/journaling/social media post (for marketing purposes, not because I’m addicted or anything).

Afternoon: Walkabout, grab a bite, hang with friends, flyer.

Evening: Put on my stage makeup. Force myself to eat something. Do my show. If I’m feeling tired or down, head home for some Netflix and grilled cheese in the dorm kitchen. If I’m feeling amped, see a show, then end up at DogHouse or Assembly Bar. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

This might sound crazy, but I absolutely LIVE for the £5 meal deals at Tesco’s and Sainsbury’s. Fringe can be overwhelming (and so costly), so having a quick, convenient and inexpensive option is huge. And of course after an evening show (and/or a couple cocktails) Panquake for a crepe the size of your head.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

The people. The opportunity to meet artists from all over the world, see shows you never would have seen otherwise, and perform for audiences you never would have reached otherwise.

Equally the best for me is constantly stepping outside of my comfort zone and gaining a stronger sense of my self and my resiliency. Last year I signed up for Fringe having never produced a show overseas or even performed my show in its entirety. I went to Fringe on my own, unsure of what I’d encounter, and it’s the grandest thing I’ve done.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

A voodoo doll of my ex. Just kidding. If I were to travel with it, it might release the curse onto the entire plane. Just kidding. Or am I? I am, promise.

What I do bring are silk pillowcases, so after a long day of Fringing, I can rest my head somewhere cool, soft and inviting — a little moment of luxury amid the frenzy.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

£5 meal deals of course. If you’re a coffee or tea drinker, buy the goods to make it at home. Find a sugar daddy to fund your life. And finally — always have a nip of Purse Booze available on hand to save from overspending on cocktails.
