Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

It’s called Mamma Don’t Cry, and it’s about the aftermath of leaving an abusive  relationship and moving into a share house with three strangers who ended up becoming  some of the safest, kindest people I’ve ever known. They taught me what safety and  support could actually feel like.

The song centres around a conversation with my mum over coffee, where I finally told her  the truth about what was really been happening in that relationship, and just how bad  things really were. This song doesn’t come from a place of being a victim, it comes from a  place of strength and stepping into a new life.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

“Look at me now, look at me now, I have grown into someone I want to be”

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

A song that haunts me is “When You Were Mine” from our last EP. It’s from one of the  most raw and vulnerable times of my life, written with my ex partner about ending our  relationship – created during the darkest period of our life. There’s so much pain in it, but  also a deep sense of understanding, reflection, and the inner work that came from living  through it. Life is complex, relationships are complex, trauma is complex and I feel like I  was just in the depths of chaos when this was written, but it was honest and it was real.

Your favourite song to play live:

Wolves – 10000000000%! It’s one of our oldest songs but it makes me feel powerful as heck.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

‘Sleep Alone’ took a very long time to write (I think like 2 years?). It started as a folk,  country song and ended up being pop, mysterious, ethereal, rocky and soulful and very  different to what I started with. It took a while to create the story that I wanted to tell and  find the right production and direction for it. Some songs just take a long time!

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your  music and why?

Still Breathing – this song really shows who we are as a band. The lyrics tell a story of a  chaotic, difficult time but it’s layered with so much hope and connection and makes me  feel incredibly alive when we play it together. It’s a beautiful live moment where we get  the audience to sing with us and there’s a magic that comes with community, connection   and humanity – everyone goes through so much shit in this life but at the end of the day,  we’re still breathing.

Dream collaboration:

Phoebe Bridgers – I would actually just faint and cry and then hopefully write a good  song.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

It’s the greatest feeling and high in the world – my heart is always racing, adrenaline  pumping; I have to jump around a lot because there’s just so much ENERGY pulsating  through my body and I’m addicted to that feeling.

The track that is most fun to play live:

For me the most fun track is for sure Cool Kid – we love to finish with this song because  it’s silly, meaningful and fun and we get the audience involved in a sing a long. I dance  with my bass player and it’s just a great time. I also love playing electric guitar, and this  one goes off.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

My ball gowns – you have no idea how hard they are to pack but it’s a necessity.

Describe your fans in three words:

Emotional, empathetic, chalant

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

I wish I wrote ‘Good Luck Babe’ by Chappell – this is the best song I’ve heard in years and  I listened to it over 1000 times.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

I am really excited about our new music to be honest – it’s the best thing we’ve created  and I’m so keen to share it.
