I really like Radio X, I have listened to it on and off for years. These days it tends to play all day in my room as it keeps one of my rabbits company when I have to work in my office. My other rabbits like Classic FM better but this bunny, no she is really into indie.

One thing I have realised in the past few months is that when I have gone into my room between 4pm-7pm Johnny Vaughan and his team are playing a game. Initially I just listened to it and then I started to realise that it is actually a great game for improv.

Each day they take two random words (not sure how they choose as I always miss this part but I know that they are random) and then they put the two random words together to make a saying and then get the listeners to phone up and ‘explain’ the definition of the made up terminology.

It is such a simple idea which more then likely comes from a background of improv but it is also a game that works so well and allows audiences to participate. The listeners are so creative and some of their ideas are fantastic.

It made me think about improv – this simple game can be remixed in so many ways for the improv show. It can be used as a suggestion for a theme of a scene, a fun quick fire round that improvisers have to make up ideas (think sort of like Mock The Week).

Simple ideas can be inspired from anywhere and this just goes to show that a radio show is something that can really unexpected.
