Welcome to a brand new feature! Every other week we are going to be looking at a different episode of a television show and delve into the world of that show! There is so many great television programmes out there that some of the are forgotten about or they even just get left behind. So let’s celebrate the world of television.
Show: F.R.I.E.N.D.S
Episode: The One Where Ross And Rachel You Know
Original Release Date: 1996
Friends has been there since I was a kid, I grew up with it, it gave me all the expectations I have in men and also is just a pure comfort blanket. There will be many episodes I write about on this strand but wanted to start with this one. It is not a favourite episode, not even in my top five but rewatching it after all this time I feel I needed to write about it.
In modern society, a lot of the generation below me, feel there is issues with Ross. I have rewatched it through many times and I totally understand (he was never my favourite character, it was always Chandler) what they have a problem with. However, the more I watch it, the more issues I have with Ross.
This is the millionth time I have watched this show and only just realised another issue with Ross. Their first date. The girl he has waited and wanted for years to be with – the girl he would do anything for and what does he do? Takes her to the cinema to see a film which is fine BUT he takes to her to see a complicated film with intense subtitles. I mean that defines Ross down to a tee. I have never realised this before and it made me so angry. Right from the start he is already knocking Rachel down to look ‘stupid’ and it annoyed me so much.
There are some positives in this episode though – Monica meets Richard for the first time since his divorce, Chandler and Joey get their recline chairs and won’t move and Phoebe helped Monica with catering an event. There is a lot of fun things about this episode, just a shame Ross ruins it being Ross.
