Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Mysteries Of Life was written by my good friend Jim Patterson in the early 80’s and was part of our set list in a band we played in called Chaser in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. It was one of the very few songs Jim wrote that he is credited with the lyrics on.Jim
Jim passed away in 2013 and the current project I am working on is a tribute to him, so it was a very natural choice to include Mysteries Of Life on the album. Jim was a very talented guitarist so I enlisted the help of Jay Michael Smith of The Speaker Wars to record the guitar tracks for me. Michael did such a great job of capturing Jim’s style and technique that when I listen to the track it is as if Jim is still with us today.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
Due to the fact I didn’t write the lyrics I don’t really have a favorite. I don’t recall ever having a conversation with Jim about the song or what he was writing about. I had to look up the definition of astral projection to even know what that meant. Back in those days I was more a living in the moment type, whereas Jim definitely had a more philosophical side to him.
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
I honestly do not have a favorite. Due to my tendency to write in different styles I would say I may lean toward certain songs within a given genre. Perhaps my favorite folk rock tune would be Westridge House Stomp which is on my first album titled Seventeen. For pop rock I would pick The Daydream off the same album. Blues would be an upbeat blues riff called I Owe It To You, once again on the Seventeen album. On
On my second album titled Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow I would go with Our trip In The Sun, a kind of top 40 “island” sound, Christine is a progressive country tune, and Down By The Sea is acoustic rock. One caveat about the second album is that I definitely rushed that release and next winter I plan to remix the entire album. On my third album titled Get The Led Out! for a more pure classic rock sound I would definitely say Paid My Dues. Also on the same album is Mama Dance, a little dance number. As
As for my latest album which will be titled A Wink Is As Good As A Nod To A Blind Mule, there is still a lot of work to do. I have currently released 5 tracks as singles; the entire album will be out late spring/early summer. Too early for me to have favorites on it as there is much work to be done.
Your favourite song to play live:
Unfortunately I do not currently perform live. Due to a number of reasons, age being a big factor, I have no plans to do live shows for the foreseeable future.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Much of the material I am currently working on was written a long time ago. Because A Wink Is As Good As A Nod To A Blind Mule is a tribute album to my late friend, all of the songs included were songs Jim was involved with in some way or another. Time has eroded many memories. I will say that we tended to write very organically, so for the most part things tended to flow pretty quickly.
Your most emotional track:
Definitely a song called Worldly Girl on the YT&T album. I wrote it about my first love when I was pretty young, and it was quite emotionally inspired.
Dream collaboration:
Number one would be Jimmy Page. Not only for his guitar abilities but also he is a phenomenal producer. More realistically would be to work with the guys in an Austin, Texas based band called Fastball. I really like their style and they have come up with some great tunes.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
Initially I will complete and release A Wink Is As Good As A Nod To A Blind Mule. I have been working on this project for well over a year now. The album will have 14 songs and a number of very talented musicians have come together to help this get done. Jay Michael Smith and Brian Patterson from the band The Speaker Wars. Ralph Galetti out of Albuquerque, NM and Fred Sullivan from Pittsburgh, PA have both recorded vocal tracks. Hollan Holmes has contributed some synthesizer tracks. And there may be a few more surprise contributions before this is done. After the release I plan to relax this summer and recharge the batteries; then back to the studio next fall to remix YT&T.
