Today’s Featured Liverpool Improv Festival Act – INTERVIEW –  Absolute Onions

All this month we are talking to acts that are performing at the Liverpool Improv Festival which takes place between May 7th – 10th. We will be speaking to acts every Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30pm on the run up to the festival. Today we speak to Absolute Onions

Tell Us about:

Your latest improv show you are bringing to Liverpool Improv Fest ?

Improv Island Discs, where we take one of the audience’s favourite songs and improvise the true story and meaning behind it.  We also use the audience’s treasured items to influence the story!

Your favourite suggestion you have been given?

We’ve enjoyed the shows from the suggestions – We Didn’t Start The Fire, 1000 Miles, Come To Daddy, and My Old Man’s a Dustman and loved the specificity of “It’s Raining Men – NOT the Geri Halliwell version!”

Your favourite venue to perform at:

We had a good run of 2 years in Fierce Bar in Manchester and it was wonderful to be amongst all the comedy shows that were happening there.  We’ve moved about a bit over the years, but feel really lucky to find a new regular home in The English Lounge in Manchester.

Improv hero:

From various members of the group – Ryan Stiles And Colin Mochrie, TJ & Dave, Paul F Tompkins, Lauren Lapkus – you’ll have to guess whose is who

Dream venue to play at:

Getting to play at The Unity is going to be a dream come true!

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

Just excitement really!

The hardest improv suggestion to perform and why:

As mentioned, we’ve had Come To Daddy by Aphex Twin as a prompt before which was a challenge, mainly because of the small amount of lyrics. Tequila by The Champs was tough for that reason too

Essential items you always take with you to a show?

The obligatory improv uniform of our plaid shirts, also pens and paper for our audience to suggest their treasured items.  We can’t forget the magical bucket of treasure the items go into as well!

Describe your fans in three words:

Few but enthusiastic

What we can look forward to from you this year:

We’re hoping to take the show to Edinburgh Fringe this year, but whatever happens you can always catch us on the last Wednesday of the month at Improv Wednesdays in Manchester
