Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Billy Dodge Moody: “Meaning to Disaster” is about being in high school and hearing about a childhood friend that I hadn’t seen in years had died of a freak heart attack. It’s about confronting mortality at a young age and realizing that life could end at any moment, while questioning if life does in fact have a purpose when young and innocent people die.
Your favourite lyric in this song:
“That’s all there is / To understand the time / We have to give some meaning to disaster”
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
“Meaning to Disaster.”
Your favourite song to play live:
“Visitor.”
The song that was the longest to write and why?
A song I’m still in the process of writing [laughs]. It’s called “Break You.” I can’t seem to find the right narrative and it’s currently way too trite and thematically broad for my liking. It’s also always hard to walk a nice balance of literal and figurative when it comes to writing lyrics, and ALWAYS frustrating when you have a strong musical structure but the lyrics are bland and contrived.
For me, writing a good song always has momentum, and when that momentum stops, I start losing interest to the point where the song just completely dies. I’m not giving up on this one, though. I know there’s a great song in there somewhere.
Your most emotional track:
“Meaning to Disaster,” for the reasons I mentioned above.
Dream collaboration:
Chadwick Stokes.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Euphoria, adrenaline, and slight nervousness: My favorite feeling on Earth.
The hardest track to play live:
‘Old Me.” It never sounds right.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
A blanket and pillow in case I need to sleep in the car.
Describe your fans in three words:
Friends and family.
A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:
“Mary” by Big Thief.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
A new EP! Stay tuned…
