Hello! Tell us about yourself?

Jane Postlethwaite is a Queer, Cumbrian Multi-Comedy Award nominee Stand up Comedian. She’s been heard on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Cumbria. She’s had sell out shows at Brighton Fringe, Edinburgh Fringe and the Women in Comedy Festival. She’s a regular on the North West Comedy Scene and at the Manchester Roast Battles where she is top of the League. She was recently in the British Comedy Award Finals 2023.

Tell us all about your show!

The show is a split hour of stand up comedy with myself, Mary Cross and Jack Horsefield. We’re all queer comedians but each have a distinctive comedy style so you get three comedians for the price of one! We intend to be as funny as possible for you. It’s free to attend and we will have a donation bucket at the end.

How did you come up with the name of your show that your taking to the fringe?

Mary had the idea of the poster being a bit like the front of an Enid Blyton book and then we found that Enid Blyton has a book called ” The Queer Adventure” which made us laugh. As we are LGBTQI+ people we wanted to reclaim the word “queer” in a positive way and going to Edinburgh is an adventure for us so the name fit perfectly.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

I am looking forward to seeing as many female comedians as I possibly can. I love Katie Norris, Rachel Fairburn, Amy Gledhill and Kiri Prichard-Mclean.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I did two shows at Edinburgh back in 2016 / 2017 and they were character shows. My advice is start marketing your show very early on so people have you on their radar. Also, start saving your money! It’s a very expensive experience whether you’re a performer or a visitor.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Get up, eat loads of food before I get too nervous, try to get some fresh air, get to the venue early to get grounded and set up everything ready for my show. Turn off my phone an hour before the show as messages or social media distract me and can influence my mood. Avoid anything stressful. Before a show I am quite vulnerable so I need to be in the zone ASAP.

What is the best way to enjoy yourself at the fringe?

Pace yourself, get lots of sleep each night, eat regularly and plan out the shows you want to see.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

I don’t know if I should share my secret but my absolute favourite place ever is Tupiniquim. They have the best gluten free crepes in the entire world.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Being around other artists / comedians – there is a real sense of we’re all in it together and I find watching other people’s shows so inspiring.

Top tips for travelling around the Fringe and getting to shows on time?

Make a schedule / spreadsheet, everywhere can be got to on foot so wear comfy footwear, take snacks and a drink with you. The buses are very cheap if you need to use those too.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Trainers, a waterproof jacket and a reusable cup.

What’s the secret to successful flyering?

Be full of energy and sell yourself / the show. I am not a naturally happy person so I prefer to pay someone who is to flyer for me.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

The best place is on my instagram www.instagram.com/janedoescomedy where I will be doing regular updates on our adventures!

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Dry, dark and hilarious
