This month we are looking at some of the great shows that you can see at the Edinburgh Fringe. So take note because we are going to give you all the information you need for just a handful of some of the great shows happening this year!

Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Tongue Twister is a show for children and adults. In the show I perform tongue twisters in 13 different languages from Arabic to Yoruba. The catch is I don’t actually know how to speak any of these languages (well one of the tongue twisters is in English). I wanted to make a show that explores and celebrates the musicality of languages. And one thing that most languages seem to have in common is their use of tongue twisters – those silly phrases designed to be tricky to say that are full of ridiculous characters in strange situations.

Each tongue twister has its own outlandish bizarre costume. There’s a knitted frog brain hat. And a colourful ball of tutus that magically transforms into a wedding dress. And one that you hear coming before you see it as it’s covered in clattering drinks cans.

The show is aimed at children from ages 6 and up. But really its message is intergenerational and international: that language is an important way for us to form connections with others in our communities and across the world.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Well I’m also performing in We Will Hear The Angels by Magnetic North, so I have to plug that. It’s a performance/gig about the power of sad songs. Apart from that I’m also excited to see The King of All Birds by Martha Knight and The Great Chevalier by Ballet National Folklorique du Luxembourg.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe. 

Yeah a few times. My advice is to take it slow. I personally don’t see the point in seeing back to back shows, I need time in between to properly appreciate what I’ve just seen. And get out of the city centre. Go to the Pentland Hills for a walk or take the train to North Berwick and sit on the beach with an ice cream.

But also don’t take it slow when walking along Princes Street or The Bridges. That is serious rage-baiting behaviour!

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

This year is going to be BUSY with performing in two shows. My day will involve a slow breakfast. Then I’ll cycle up to the EICC for my show Tongue Twister at 11:30. Performances of We Will Hear The Angels are at 16:30 at Summerhall so I’ll have lunch and probably catch a show or an exhibition in between. And after Angels I’ll see friends and catch an evening show or a gig.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe? 

Noodles Home for hand-pulled noodles or if you want a fancy vegetarian meal, Henderson’s is great.

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Those venue passes really help to get to see shows that were maybe not on your radar otherwise.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

I’m dead lucky because I live in Edinburgh so I get all the home comforts. Hopefully my partner will cook dinner too!

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

You can’t see everything. You’re going to want to see the expensive hot tickets. But if you have the mindset that you’re creating your own bespoke festival experience you can prioritise seeing cheaper shows. Often they’re the ones that need more bums on seats too!
