Playing The Favourite – INTERVIEW –Radioactive Pineapple

Welcome to the feature where we talk to musicians about some of their favourite things about the industry. Today we speak to Radioactive Pineapple. In June of this year, they released the EP called Insane. Today we ask them all about their favourite things

What is your Favourite:

Song you have written

Jake: Insane, the opening track of our new EP. It’s a catchy pop punk -anthem and I finally got a feeling that I actually created something successful.

Lyric

Jake: Probably ”Fading Away” by my former band Stunted City. The song doesn’t contain much lyrics but it’s kind of a sad story about being lost and just wandering around, not knowing what’s going to happen next.

Musician

Jake: Liam Gallagher, he doesn’t care about what anyone thinks of him and despite being a native English-speaker, he doesn’t let the fact that no-one actually understands what he says on the stage ruin the show. Part of his charm, I guess.

Film or television show

Jake: Buffy. Or something from the Star Wars canon.

Venue to perform at

Jake: Lepakkomies at Helsinki. It’s an underground venue and thus not very big but it has a good atmosphere and you always feel welcome there, both as a musician and as an audience member.

Item to take with you on tour

Jake: Toothbrush. Brushing teeth makes the hangover go away.

Instrument

Jake: Probably my first electric guitar, a Gibson Melody Maker. My dad bought it from the former Smack-bassist Jimi Sero, and it was used by Rane who also used to play the guitar in the same band (both of them played in a local band called ”Problems?” by then), so it has high sentimental value and that’s why I’ve always refused to sell it despite some of my friends’ inquiries.

Song to play live

Jake: Still ”Insane”, it’s kind of upbeat and gets the atmosphere through the roof.

Album by another musician

Jake: Dude Ranch by Blink-182. A perfect pop punk -album.

Memory of tour

Jake: When we drove home with Thoubi from our mini-tour last fall. We’d been a little uptight for the last couple of days but when the shows were over we just hit the road and sang along Mouhous-songs all the way. It was pretty cool (and I was pretty drunk).

Era for music

Jake: The 90s, no question. There’s no choice if you are in a pop punk -band.

Part of making a record

Jake: Listening to the first mixes. It is the moment when you finally get a feeling how the song is actually going to be arranged.

Thing about performing at festivals

Jake: Remains to be seen. Never been to one as a performer!

Quote

Jake: You forget a thousand things every day, make sure this is one of them. To be honest that’s one of the few ones I actually remember!

Thing about the music industry at the moment

Jake: Is there one? Maybe the thing that almost anyone can record their songs by themselves and release them these days, however the other side of the coin being that it’s pretty difficult to reach the right audience since there is so much ”supply on the market”.

Thing about this year so far?

Jake: The fact that I’m going to see Blink-182 live this fall after many years of waiting. The show is in Stockholm but let’s not let a little trip scare us!
