The one thing I love about music is that everyone has their own story to tell – the musician, the lyrics, the way the fans decipher them and also the way a song can also create a memory or a meaning to someone. That is what this new article is all about. Each fortnight, we will take a look at a different song and I will take you as a trip down memory lane as to what it means to me. Welcome to Music Memories.
Track: Never Been Better
Artist: Olly Murs
Original Release Date: 2014
I thought it would be interesting to talk about a song that brings back a travel story that still sticks in my mind. In 2015 / 2016 I lived in Newcastle and wherever I wanted to travel back home I had to go by train as the planes were not great to London. I got so used to travelling that I started to find it really easy to fall asleep because I got used to the rhythm of the train. There was a song that I remember listening to a lot on these journey’s.
Olly Murs had recently released his album Never Been Better and the lead song on the album I was very keen of – I really liked the music in the chorus and the brass instruments. On one of these journey’s I was very tired, this meant that I fell asleep as soon as it set off to London. It was a deep sleep, I don’t remember a lot about it but what I do know is I accidentally left the song on repeat – this meant that for hours I listened to the same song on repeat without realising.
I have no idea how many times I listened to it and I do not remember that I had listened to it so many times but I know that I had a really good sleep.
