Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Dead Defined

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

My latest song release is entitled ‘A Sun That Doesn’t Rise.’ It’s for anyone struggling with Addiction, Mental Health, Loneliness and Relationships. ‘A Sun That Doesn’t Rise’ was written on the basis of all these life hurdles that the everyday person deals with on the inside. This song goes out to all those who continue to push on in life through the pain, sorrow, and darkness. I wrote this song from life experience and hope it resonates with people from all walks of life. There can be no light without darkness.

Your first single and how you felt when it was released:

It’s entitled ‘I Fear Nothing.’ And at that time, I actually feared it wouldn’t go anywhere haha. Fortunately, it actually developed a great following through redub versions in a music genre called ‘Nightcore.’ I had never heard of it before, but apparently it’s a big thing in anime culture. There’s a few different versions online of it and it’s been used in quite a few anime clips, which is a whole different demographic listener wise than what I initially had imagined.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

Now that’s a hard one to narrow down. Every song has a different meaning and message behind it when they were written, but I’d say my latest release ‘A Sun That Doesn’t Rise’ has been the most powerful thus far. The message behind the song is meant to stir up a lot of emotion inside the listener.

Your favourite song to play live:

Since this has been a studio project as of now, I haven’t had the chance to play these songs live. I would really like to in the near future though. As of now my focus is to build a larger resume of music as Dead Defied, then take it to the stage.

Your most emotional track:

That’s also a toss up! I’d have to say it’s between my song’s Lifeline and A Sun That Doesn’t Rise. They both convey a similar message when it comes to promoting mental health and addiction.

The best lyric you have ever written:

That’s hard to narrow down again, but my latest chorus to A Sun That Doesn’t Rise has been hitting home with many people. It’s the pain I hide inside It’s the hurt I can’t describe It’s the black behind my eyes Like a Sun that doesn’t rise It’s the lines across my face It’s the dark I can’t displace It’s a wound to cauterize Like a Sun that doesn’t rise

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

I can only describe it as staring over the edge of a giant cliff. The adrenaline and waves of excitement hit you all at once.

The hardest track to play live:

Since this has been a studio project as of now, I haven’t had the chance to play these songs live. I would really like to in the near future though. As of now my focus is to build a larger resume of music as Dead Defied, then take it to the stage.

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Saliva – Always. This tune has always been a favourite of mine. I’ve covered it live in past bands, it’s a song that I grew up listening to and it’s still a banger today. Thankfully the band is still active, hoping to one day see them live.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:
