Have you ever wanted To listen to a new band or musician and not sure where to start? Well, instead of listening to their commercial music, why not start with something off the album first! Today we look at the brand new album by Lady Gaga – Chromatica
Chromatica 1
This album opens with a wonderful piece of classical music, it is only a minute but it works really well welcoming you into this new world that Lady Gaga is about to bring you into. It works so well as well because a lot of her albums start very differently and set up the theme. The fact that the first song is called Alice it sort of works like the tunnel into Wonderland,
Fun Tonight
This song starts slower then the songs before it and if you listen to the lyrics they are very powerful and in her description on Spotify she defines that this is a song that she wants people to sing to themselves and it is not hard to see why – the lyrics are uplifting and in true Lady Gaga fashion you can tell that the love and time has been spent to word this correctly. Whilst this album is very dancey, this song is slower toned down with a hint of dance in the background, very clever song.
911
This song starts with a really heavy bassline that is really addictive and sounds robotic. Since it comes after the second chromatica musical interlude it feels like it is welcoming the next chapter of the album. Even though this song is still dance themed you can hear strong elements of pop music to it. Personally, it reminds me of all the robotic style pop you had at the end of the nineties, Kim Lukas style springs to mind. A real nostalgic hit but a great song.
Sour Candy (with BLACKPINK)
To me, I was surprised to hear a song like this on Lady Gaga album as it sounds like a track that came off that album that Katy Perry did that was her dance album – although this song is constructed much better. However having a K-Pop group on a Lady Gaga album is a big deal. When it hits the bridge you can hear the Lady Gaga twist on this style and it works so well. Whilst this is a very dance style song do not be deceived, it is very good.
Babylon
This song to me has huge influence from Madonna’s Vogue, I don’t know if it does but the strong structure has so many similarities. It is a song again with an important message and again that is why the music structure works and with the choral echoes throughout the song creates a real dramatic style to it. This song does have a really nostalgic style to it as well.
