The Travel Book – House Of Tides, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, United Kingdom

Sometimes when you eat out, you want a dining experience that you will never forget. Well, if you go to Newcastle, in the North East of England at a weekend, why don’t you treat yourself and visit the House of Tides.

So what is the House of Tides? House of Tides is a Michelin star restaurant based near the River Tyne and a short walk from the quayside. It was opened in 2014  by Kenny and Abbie Atkinson and it is the only Michelin Star restaurant in Newcastle.

The restaurant produces a set menu of two different options – one that has less items and one that is the whole thing – these vary in price and also for an extra £65 can paired with different wine for each course. What is on offer on the sample menu depends on what is available seasonally so it changes throughout the year.

You have to book your place at the restaurant in advance as it books up really quickly and also spaces are limited because it is set in a small space that can only hold a certain amount of people. The restaurant is situated in a restored Grade 1 listed 16th Century former merchant’s town house so it really is a great place for both the food and the atmosphere.

The last time I was in Newcastle we decided to treat ourselves and give the sample menu a try as we had never been to a Michelin restaurant before and let me tell you – it did not disappoint! The food was exquisite as was the service by the staff as well. I am not the greatest fan of a lot of fish but I decided to give everything a try and the ways in which they cooked things was so great that I even ate things that I do not normally like.

If you are in Newcastle, I really suggest you give this place a try and whilst it sound pricey, for the experience it really isn’t!
