Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Gail is a satirical character comedy about a lost and delusional middle-aged woman from Milton Keynes. It’s a tragi-comedy about female loneliness and the confusing socio-political landscape of modern Britain. I grant you, it doesn’t sound like a laugh-a-minute but there are definitely jokes in there.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Rob Preston, Em Humble, Hasan Al-Habib, Molly Windust, Bella Hull, and Will and Noah are my top priorities.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I have! Pace yourself, eat some vegetables where possible, call home. Take lots of photos and, in an ideal world, have a laugh.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up naturally at 9.30am. Spend a few minutes looking at the pile of rotting bananas in the kitchen. Eat a pain au chocolate instead. Shower. Get a coffee with a close friend/fellow comedian and share tips for white-knuckling the longest month in human history. Eat some dried mango. Go and do my show. Sit silently at a picnic table in Pleasance Courtyard, completely depleted of energy, listening to some of the world’s funniest people be hilarious. Nod along, smiling, utterly dead behind the eyes. Go home at 8pm. Bed.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

The Edinburgh Larder on Morningside Road! Yum, alert!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

It’s just really fun and an immense privilege. As well as the joy of seeing new shows and meeting new people, I just love Edinburgh. I truly think it’s one of the greatest cities on Earth so getting to live there for a month is Jepic. I am, of course so, so sorry to permanent residents and very, very grateful.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

Yes – I bring an array of home comforts. Last year I brought along my favourite mug, some daily affirmation cards, and I carried a small fabric cat around in my pocket. He is my emotional support fabric cat and he will be coming up to Edinburgh again this year. I wish I was normal but I’m not, sadly.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

Boring answer but I pre-prepare lunch/dinner and use the free microwaves in Pleasance Dome.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

@actual_emmeline on Insta or TikTok!

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Ignorance isn’t bliss.
