Hello! Tell us all about your show!
All It Takes is about working hard to achieve something (your dream) and waiting for your lucky break. It’s about how that feels, it’s got songs in it and a bunch of other stuff. I might wear some velvet.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
John-Luke Roberts is taking a new show up and is always worth your attention. I think Laura Davis is coming back this year and Laura’s work is superb. I haven’t really seen who’s up yet. Beyond that, Idiots Of Ants and Tom Binns.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
This is not my first Rodeo. Previous Rodeos have left their mark on my soul and sense of self. I still live with the consequences of Rodeos past.
If you are new to the Fringe, go and see as many different things as possible in as many different places as possible, make friends where you can and experiment. If you aren’t, remember it’s a marathon not a sprint, and that for all its problems it is arguably the most significant and brilliant creative epicenter in the world.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up. Bother my PR. Get washed and dressed in a flap. Bother my PR. Head into town. Feel simultaneously more busy and more lost than I ever do at any other point in life. Eat a panini. Bother my PR. Do a lunchtime panel show about my funniest ever sexual embarrassments. Flyer the audience whilst failing to make eye contact. Eat a panini. Bother my PR. Bump into someone I gigged with in Ashby De La Zouche a decade ago. Have a wonderful time reminiscing. Eat a panini. Bother my PR. Do the show. Eat a panini. Bother my PR. Head back to my flat to drop off my stuff and drink wine with a woman called Helen. Head back into town for evening gigs. Have revelatory and life affirming experiences on and off stage. Eat a panini. Bother my PR.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
I am not a ‘foodie’ and am preparing a paper about how ‘foodie’ culture is just middle-class posturing. I find the Mor Bakehouse to be a centrally located food hub full of reasonable prices and sweet and savoury treats. The best meal I’ve ever had in Edinburgh was probably at Mother India.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Doing something that pushes you creatively that really means something to audiences. That and the ever present possibility that you might have sex with an Australian clown.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
The Edinburgh Fringe is more of a home to me than anywhere I’ve ever lived. A lot of people who do it feel that way, I’m just enough of a wanker to admit it.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Rich people go to the fringe. When they offer you a drink, take it.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
You can follow me on Instagram via @alexanderybennett but for everything else take a look at https://linktr.ee/alexanderbennettcomedian
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
You’ll feel better
