Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Matt Jones & The Bobs

Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

Our newest single is “You Stood Still.” It’s a really personal one for me. It’s about that moment when everything in your world feels like it’s spinning, changing, falling apart or coming together — and there’s one person who just stays steady. It’s honest. No hiding behind clever lines. Just truth.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

My favourite line is: “As the world was spinning faster and was tumbling down, You stood still.”

It’s a simple hook — but that’s why I love it. It says exactly what the song is about without dressing it up.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

There’s a track on the upcoming record “The Weight of the World” that leans heavy into alt-rock Americana — gritty guitars, big chorus. That one feels like a statement for where we are now as a band. It’s hard to pick, but that one feels like growth. Tune in to hear it soon!

Your favourite song to play live:

Right now, it’s “The Weight of the World. From our upcoming 2026 album release. ”There’s something about the energy of that song live — the guitars hit hard, the chorus opens up, and you can feel the whole room lean in. It’s one of those tracks where the emotion and the volume meet in the middle. It feels powerful. It feels honest. And every time we play it, it reminds me exactly why we got back together in the first place.

The song that was the longest to write and why?

That would be “Penitentiary Road” from our upcoming 2026 album.

It’s both a metaphor and a very real story about losing a childhood friend in a car accident. He wasn’t just someone we grew up with — he helped form this band. In a lot of ways, his loss was part of why we drifted apart for a while.

When we came back together, we knew we wanted to honor him properly. The lyrics and melody had to reflect who he really was — his character, the way he connected us, and how much he shaped our friendships and our story.

Our band wouldn’t have existed without him. So finding the right words wasn’t easy. It took time, emotion, and a lot of heart to make sure we honored his memory the way he deserved.

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?

I’d point them to one of our earlier roots-leaning tracks — something that shows where we started like the title track of our album “Brother’s Hymn” from our college days at Radford University. It gives context to where we are now. If you hear the old stuff and then “You Stood Still,” you can really hear the evolution and resonance from something familiar but elevated with a new energy and progression.

Dream collaboration:

I’d love to collaborate with someone like Jason Isbell. The way he balances storytelling with grit is unreal. Or even someone in country mainstream like Zach Bryan who is deep rooted in honest emotion and personal experiences like us in his songs —Lastly, a newer act Stephen Wilson Jr. that is taken the alt country genre by storm. He appreciates alternative 90s in his writing as we do and incorporates that into his own diverse sound and that arena-ready emotional punch would be wild.

It’s a mix of nerves and peace. Like standing at the edge of something powerful. The second the first chord rings out, it all makes sense. It feels like coming home. I always find a connection with the audience and they do with us as our music tells the tales of something relatable.

The track that is most fun to play live:

Right now…

You Stood Still because of its catchy melody and killer guitar hook it’s one that’s straight up rock and roll — Live it’s loud, fast, with no apologies. That’s the one where people start moving. Those are my favorite moments.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Notebook for the writing process.

Voice memos app always ready.

A solid pair of boots. Lots of extra guitar picks.

And something that reminds me why I started doing this in the first place. (Family Photo)

Lots of Caffeine!

Describe your fans in three words:

Loyal. Passionate. Real.

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

“My Father’s Son” by Stephen Wilson Jr..

That song hits on a different level. The writing is raw, poetic, and brutally honest. The way he blends grit with vulnerability feels fearless — like he’s letting you read pages straight out of his journal. That one cuts deep every time.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

New music. New Singles and a new album.
