Sunday Book Club: Keep Laughing, Chris McCausland

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at the autobiography of comedian Chris McCausland.

Keep Laughing (2025)

Chris McCausland

Synopsis

Strictly star Chris McCausland was a successful stand-up, actor, TV presenter and panel show favourite long before he danced into the hearts of the nation with his ground-breaking performances on the BBC’s biggest show.

After growing up in Liverpool and studying software engineering at Kingston University, Chris lost his sight at the age of twenty-two. Forced to rethink his career plans, he worked in sales before applying for a job as a spy at MI5. But, following an appearance at an open mic night in 2003, he turned his hand to stand-up. National Security’s loss was comedy’s gain. And he promises that his book ‘will be really funny’.

Positive Points

This is a really great read and it is really in depth about growing up and adapting to becoming blind in his early twenties. It makes you really think about how difficult life must of been, it also has a lot of humour and is a really enjoyable read.

Negative Points

Some may argue that there is too much about Strictly Come Dancing at the end but it is part of the story.

Overall Review

This is a really good read and I really recommend reading it, if you want extra humour then I would suggest listening to the audiobook version as there are some additional fun parts to it.
