All this month we are speaking to Zoe Wohlfeld, an experienced actor who also has been clowning since 2022. This year Zoe is debuting at Edinburgh Fringe with the solo debut with Dog Funeral . The show has been co-written and directed by Jack Grossman. This week we get to know Zoe.
Hello Zoe lovely to speak to you! For anyone who doesn’t know who you are, tell us three facts about yourself!
I love dogs
I have two cats named Humo and Bathroom
I love dogs
How did you get into theatre?
I did Shakespeare in high school. I got to play Lady Macbeth and I really loved and connected with playing an unhinged woman of high esteem.
We will go more into depth about it in a few weeks time but give us a summary of what Dog Funeral is about?
Dog funeral is a funeral for my childhood dog! His name was Twinkles and I loved him so much. I’ve always been an animal person. When I was growing up we had between 2-3 dogs and 5-8 cats at all times.
What is your favourite thing about performing on stage?
It’s the most fun I have ever had doing anything ever.
What is your earliest memories of being on stage?
I remember being a solider in Henry V in high school. The first time I went out on stage was for a big battle scene (with approx 30 other kids) and I clearly remember the adrenaline I felt the moment I was seen by the audience. I was so nervous I got our fight choreography wrong and accidentally hit my fight partner.
You also perform a show called A Night of Drama with your partner – what can you tell us about that?
It’s a live directed melodrama clown show where you get to throw banana peels at us when we’re bad! It’s chaotic, messy, a bit unpredictable, and some of the best time I’ve had on stage. I love being in a grungy basement, a yurt, or a DIY performance space and getting banana peels thrown at me. It feels anarchic and ridiculous.
If people want to follow you on social media where can they go?
I am @zoewohlfeld on instagram!
