All this month we are talking to acts that are performing at the Liverpool Improv Festival which takes place between May 7th – 10th. We will be speaking to acts every Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30pm on the run up to the festival. Today we speak to Phyllida

Tell Us about:
Your latest improv show you are bringing to Liverpool Improv Fest ?
Liverpool is part of my global tour. It’s been a tough few years but I promised my fans that I would do this, visit them in their home cities and look back on my career. The downs as well as the ups. It’s a very emotional thing for me to do, and hugely enjoyable to do together.
Your favourite suggestion you have been given?
I love all my suggestions. I particularly like it when people remind me about things that I’ve forgotten about. Sometimes my fans know more about me than I do! Last week someone reminded me about when I’d advertised moisturiser in Japan. I’d completely forgotten about that, but he’d kept a video of it.
Your favourite venue to perform at:
Wherever the people are. I’ve performed in arenas and I’ve performed in corridors. And corridors in arenas. You never know where you’ll find a piano.
Improv hero:
My lighting person. Each and everyone one of them, for making me look good.
Dream venue to play at:
I’d love to play the Royal Albert Hall one day. I’d also like to play in the living room of a certain Hollywood actor, but I’ll keep that fantasy to myself.
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Sheer delight at seeing all the beautiful faces in the room. Or, if I can’t see them from the stage lights, sheer delight at imagining all the beautiful faces.
The hardest improv suggestion to perform and why:
I rarely improvise. Writing songs is a task best taken slowly, I think. Maybe I’ll try one day though!
Essential items you always take with you to a show?
My water. Water. Yes. It’s water, honestly.
Describe your fans in three words:
Loyal, beautiful, fragrant.
What we can look forward to from you this year:
Who knows! My life has been full—the audience have a lot to choose from!
