Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I’m Dr Matt Winning – a climate change lecturer and a stand-up comedian
Tell us all about your show!
It’s a tale about what fatherhood means told through the lens of how we’ve historically made money from energy. Or maybe it’s about how we need to make money from energy differently told through the lens of fatherhood. I’m not sure yet.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I am looking forward to seeing Ria Lina, Stuart McPherson, Mark Nelson and Johnny White Really-Really.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Take it one day at a time. Play the crowd in front of you that day.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe.
Wake up late and find a coffee and eat something while the nerves aren’t too bad so I can keep it down. Do errands until show. Do show. Wander aimlessly. Go home. Rest. Maybe go back out for a show if I have any energy whatsoever but usually fall asleep watching WWII documentaries to remind myself this could all be much worse.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Snax Cafe. Just not every day.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
The electricity you get walking around the city knowing you are part of something much bigger.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
The groundhog day element. Some days you just aren’t feeling it. But you need to try.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I plan on bringing a toy T-Rex
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Saving money at the Fringe is less pissing in a volcano to stop it erupting. You’ve spent a grand on a picture of your face. Don’t bother trying to convince yourself a coffee from another shop might save you 20p
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Physical items? I mean there usually isn’t much room in a suitcase but I guess an extra pair of shoes, a copy of my book “Hot Mess: What On Earth Can We Do About Climate Change” and a bottle of gaviscon.
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Find someone who’s good at it and pay them well.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Bluesky I am at mattywin.bsky.social
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Past, Present, Future
