Today’s Featured Artist – INTERVIEW – Sydney Jo Jackson

Tell us about:

Your latest single you have released:

You should be here is my first solo release  outside dance music and it’s really special to me because this genre of music is something I’ve been wanting to make for a long time, but I’ve always held back because I was nervous about transitioning from a lane that I had established to something Unknown. I’m also very excited about it as it was written in Bali, which is island of the gods and I feel like with this song it was something that was very created spiritually. It was one of the quickest songs I’ve written and I feel it came out so naturally in the first take that it didn’t require much editing.

Your favourite lyric in this song:

Lord, help me in Jesus name I pray yes it’s me and yes, I f***** it once again.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

I have a song called at the altar and I worked with a guy called Syience Who has previously worked with that such as Beyoncé . We wrote a song about Marry someone, even though you know that they’re not right for you.

We did this song before I was actually married and it was as though I was predicting my own future as now I’m divorced. Lol

Your favourite song to play live:

Bewildered – one off the album

The song that was the longest to write and why?

I try not to spend hours relentlessly going back and forth on a song cause I feel sometimes it then becomes contrived and loses emotion. So usually I like to write things within a few hours max.

However with Bewildered it took almost a whole 24 hours from start to finish. This was because when I was writing with my co writer they wanted to delve deep into my personal traumas and also play with the different ideas and ways to sing melodies on the beat.

We spent hours going back and forth with just different ways to enter the song and playing with the mood and energy within it. It was one of those no sleep nights where you go home early hours of the morning like wow that was epic!

Your most emotional track:

I think that all songs tell part of my journey and who I am, and they all expose me in someway. I don’t really have the most emotional track because when they were written, it was how I was feeling at that time and at that time I was at my most emotional when I was expressing the lyrics.

I feel the one that exposes me. The most is one. I’ve just recently called 365 and this is because the first two lines express the disappointment that I have in my father and how I sometimes find myself acting in ways he did.

Dream collaboration:

Britney Spears! I love her

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

I am fully in Sydney mode where I’m there to deliver something  memorable. I usually start with my hands shaking slightly from the adrenaline and also just trying to quieten down voices of negativity in my head. When I’m on stage this is where I get to be alive and I want everything to be a moment of connection with those watching.

The hardest track to play live:

Flowers – it’s simple just me  and  the guitar so it’s exposed vocally so I gotta be on my A game!

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

My mom and dog! What else does a girl need?

Describe your fans in three words:

Selfless Dedicated Generous

A song by another artist or band you wish you had written:

Purple Rain – Prince

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

World domination and probably a dog shelter in Bali haha
