Sunday Book Club: The Cat Who Caught A Killer, L T Shearer

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at a book about crime and a talking cat…

The Cat Who Caught A Killer
(2022)

LT Shearer

Synopsis

Meet Conrad. Conrad is a cat. You’ve never met a detective like him before.

Neither has Lulu Lewis, until he walks into her life one summer’s day. Mourning the recent death of her husband, the former police detective had expected a gentle retirement, quietly enjoying life on her new canal boat and visiting her mother-in-law in a nearby care home.

But when her mother-in-law dies suddenly in suspicious circumstances, Lulu senses foul play and resolves to find out what really happened. And a remarkable cat named Conrad will be with her every step of the way . . .

Positive Points

If you are looking for a unique spin on a crime book then this is the one for you as I haven’t read anything like it before and if I had known that the cat talks before I read it I am not sure I would of gone for it. However, if you ignore the fact the cat talks and just accept it the book is actually a page turner with an interesting crime.

Negative Points

Even though Conrad is one of the main characters, there are some really silly conversations with the talking cat that can get pretty annoying. Also at times the book can get a little bit political in the little comments here and there.

Overall Review

This book is quite an interesting read and actual crime in it keeps you engaged and turning the page to find out what happens next. Even though the talking cat Conrad is one of the main characters, it can get a bit annoying with some of the conversations that he has especially near the beginning. Try to stick with it and you may enjoy the book.
