The Travel Book – Travel Through A Photo – Madeira, Portugal

There is always a story behind a photograph and I thought it would be a fun way to look at the world of travel. So, welcome to the feature that will appear regularly in the travel section.

Madeira was a place I knew little about, it was only when we decided to visit there one year for Christmas that I learnt more about it and discovered its wonder.

There was a time when you mentioned the island of Madeira and you would think of cruise ships and elderly visiting it. It was only when we did our research into it that we discovered just how interesting the place is and that there was so much to do.

One thing we learnt very quickly about the island was that it was impossible to travel around it without a car so we had to book excursions. Some of the trips we took meant we could explore the depths of the island and see the nature of it. The photograph that we are discussing today was one of these trips.

I love this photograph because it is so striking and really stunning. The mini bus journey that we were on stopped in a random part of the road so that we could take in the view and take photographs.

The photograph of this are does not give it justice. It was absolutely breathtaking, there was hardly any noise which also made the view that extra special.

I love the depth of this image – the way that the bushes in the corner at the front give the image power as it is bold and dark which makes the image in the background of the tall hills look dramatic.

I love geology and the way that you clearly see the folds in the hills and the mountain shaded in the sunlight is rather special.

Every time I look at this photograph it makes me smile and makes me want to be able to just go back to that moment to experience it again.
