30 Best Songs of 2023 – pt1

It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. Today we have a look at the first ten in our list of greatest songs of 2023.

1) Gossip – Maneskin feat Tom Morello

This was a new track that was released by the band in January to promote the third studio album Rush that was also released at this time. I find this track incredibly catchy and one of my favourites from the band as it has all the dynamics of a fantastic rock track. It features the guitarist Tom Morello

2) Flowers – Miley Cyrus

Miley kicked off the year with a really catchy track which came from her eighth studio album Endless Summer Vacation, Originally, this was a song that I did not pay attention to but then when there was articles popping up that this was a song aimed at her ex I thought I might as well watch the video and see what they are talking about. It is a song that is actually very catchy and the chorus gets stuck in your head. Also the video has a lot to relate to her relationship with Liam Hemsworth an it was even released on his birthday.

3) Love From The Other Side – Fall Out Boy

It was pretty great news in January to find out that Fall Out Boy was releasing new music in 2023 as well as a new album. This song was released on the 18th January. Sometimes when a band returns to the scene, the music can be good but not striking, this track was very complex in it’s construction and made me excited for the musical route ahead.

4) Running Out Of TimeParamore

I was listening to Radio X in February and this was the song of the week and this is the first time I heard it. The track was released on the 23rd May and was the fourth single to be released from their sixth studio album This Is Why which was also released this year. The track deals with the topics of deals time management and comments on social anxieties over death, aging, and losing friends.

5) Brainwashed – Waterparks

Waterparks released a brand new album April and the first single to come off of this was Brainwashed which was released in March. This track is a lovely little love song that focusses on the acoustics and is really different to the track that was released before this one. The album that was released in April was called Intellectual Property.

6) Bogus Operendi – The Hives

It has been years since The Hives have released any music and it was so exciting to hear that they were returning as I really liked their songs. Bogus Operendi was released in May of this year with an album to follow. This song really highlights what I like about this band – catchy guitar riffs, a chorus you want to sing along to and a single that is one that you want to add to all of your playlists.

7) Stuck – 30 Seconds To Mars

Another band that has not released music for years is 30 Seconds To Mars and it was so exciting that they announced that they were releasing a new single in May and an album later in the year. This song feels like the continuation of Up In The Air and the music video is sort of in a similar art form as that as well. A very catchy song and it is one you want to have on repeat.

8) I Hate Love – Kelly Clarkson featuring Steve Martin

I never thought that a duet with Kelly Clarkson and Steve Martin would work but it is one of the most catchiest tracks that I have heard this year and I think it is due to the chorus and the banjo melodies by Steve Martin. This song It is a fantastic song and I think in someways it highlighted to me what can be missing from modern day pop music. I think Kelly Clarkson can create some wonderful music and this is definitely one of the top tracks.

9) Algorithms – Kasabian

It is always exciting when Kasabian release new music as it is at a time where there is always something different around the corner. This track is really catchy and it is a song that the more you listen to it, the more catchy it actually becomes. It is a lot softer then some of their other tracks but it is the chorus that makes this song very striking. The song that was released in June addresses AI’s emergence, highlighting the downside of over-reliance on machines.

10) Barbaric – Blur

If you have turned on any indie radio channel or looked at any social media that is related to the genre then in July of this year there was one thing on everyone’s mind that was Blur. It was a debut that both surprised and excited a lot of fans and even more so when there was an album attached to it as well. The album was called The Ballad of Darren.
