Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we look at the second book in the autobiography series by Michael McIntyre.
A Funny Life (2021)
Michael McIntyre
Synopsis
In A Funny Life, Michael honestly and hilariously shares the highs and the lows of his rise to the top and desperate attempts to stay there. It’s all here, from his disastrous panel show appearances to his hit TV shows, from mistakenly thinking he’d be a good chat show host and talent judge, to finding fame and fortune beyond his wildest dreams and becoming the biggest-selling comedian in the world. Along the way he opens his man drawer, narrowly avoids disaster when his trousers fall down in front of three policemen and learns the hard way why he should always listen to his wife.

Positive Points
If you are a fan of Michael McIntyre’s stand up jokes and want them in written form then this is the book for you as throughout he will write the jokes he says on stage as part of the story. I would say that if you are interested in the way that Michael became a key part of Saturday nights then I would say that this is the book for you as it goes behind the scenes of the rise and falls of trying to get him in the best shows and position to be Mr Saturday Night.
Negative Points
I personally believe that is it not as good as the first book, the second book does not have the rawness of the original.
Overall Review
I was a really big fan of the first autobiography and was really looking forward to this one and I found it super disappointing. I found that this book makes Michael come across as egotistical and it is really hard at times to feel sympathy for him when you are meant to. I tried about 5 times to get into this book and it took a long time for me to even reach the second chapter as I found it a really dull read. It does perk up at times but it was not a book for me and I found it disappointing.
