If there is one thing that fascinates me about improv and that is how it is portrayed in Television and Film. This is becoming more and more apparent in recent years because the comedy art form is sort of in fashion. There are some interesting topics that we can gain from these ways they are displayed so every so often we are going to look at different scenes from different shows and films.

There are a lot of episodes of The Middle that have examples of Improv or things you an take and use in the art form gut today we are going to focus on an episode in season 7 and that episode is number 17.

In this episode Sue and Axel Heck have all their wisdom teeth taken out and even though their mother wants to look after them, Sue’s best friend Brad decides to do it without warning as he has training of being a carer. One of the things he does to entertain the recovering dup is improv. In this short scene, the pair are really enjoying it’s magic that Brad can make any suggestion, how bizarre, come to life.

I think this scene is a fantastic example of what improv can do to an audience, I should know, I experienced it myself! I can still remember the magic of seeing acts like The Noise Next Door before I learnt improv. I found it amazing and used to love it when they used to choose my suggestions and make them come to life.

In this one small scene in The Middle Axel and Sue get Brad to improvise a spaceman delivering pizza, it is fun and also shows improv at the height of entertaining.
