30 Best Songs Of 2020 – Part 1

It has come to the point of the year when we celebrate all things music and take a look back on the year and what songs that it has provided us with. This year has been a weird year with a lot of us listening to tracks in the comfort of our own home and a lot of them have become viral because of TikTok. Today we have a look at the first ten in our list of greatest songs of 2020



1) Jason Derulo feat Jawsh685 – Savage Love

If there was an anthem that you would use this year to describe Tik Tok then it would be this song which was originally created by Jawsh685 and Jason Derulo. Not only as Jason got over 30 million followers but his song has become a huge viral dance anthem and the simple dance that came with this song made it go viral. The song went to number one in 17 countries and has gone Platinum status in many countries.



2) Hayley Williams – Simmer

At the beginning of the year frontwoman of Paramore Hayley Williams decided to go solo and release a new set of songs on an EP with a unique sound. The songs packed a punch and created a fantastic different side to the musician. Simmer was the lead single off the EP.



3) Louis Tomlinson – Walls

Another musician who released brand new music at the start of the year as a solo artist was ex-One Directioner Louis Tomlinson. He released his debut album Walls which was also followed with a number of singles including this track with the same name. It did well in the UK album Charts and went to number 4.



3) The Strokes – Bad Decisions

This year saw the return of the Indie Rock band The Strokes after seven years and it came with a brand new album called The New Abnormal. Bad Decisions was the second single to be released off the album and it incorporates some of the musical elements of Billy Idols Track ‘Dancing With Myself’. The song did really well in the US and reached number 1 on the US Adult Alternative Songs chart and number 5 on the US Alternative Airplay chart.



5) Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande – Rain On Me

This year saw the return of Lady Gaga and with her she brought along one of the biggest female artists for an award winning collaboration. Rain on Me was released on the 22nd May and went into the top 5 in many countries including the US, UK, Malta and Italy to name a few. The song also won a handful of awards including Song of the Year and Best Collaboration at the MTV Music Video Awards.



6) YUNGBLUD – Weird!

If there is one person that has had a good year musically then it is YUNGBLUD (he was also our artist One To Watch for 2020) with an album, lots of collaborations and singles galore. When the world was in the centre of Lockdown he did all he can to connect with fans and had a lot of live stream shows and also created a video entirely in lockdown at the apartment he was having to live in (read more about it here) The song that was filmed in Lockdown was Weird and the lyrics sort of relate to the world even though it was written at a different time.



7) Alkaline Trio – Mind Like Mindfields

This year saw the return of Alkaline Trio with an EP for fans, their first release since Is This Thing Cursed in 2018. The band were meant to be hitting the road this year with Rancid for a massive tour around the United States but due to the pandemic it got cancelled so they released an EP earlier then expected to make up to the fans. 8) Machine Gun Kelly – Bloody Valentine

This year has been a very big year for Machine Gun Kelly, it is the year that he rebranded and became a powerful player in the world of Punk Rock with Travis Barker. He released his first album of this genre, Tickets To My Downfall, near the end of the year and he released a lot of singles to go with it as well. Another thing that Machine Gun Kelly was in the press was for is his new relationship with Megan Fox and she appears in this music video.



9) McFly – Happiness

Another band that made a huge comeback this year is none other than McFly who returned to the music scene for the first time since 2016. Happiness was their first single off the brand new hit album Young Dumb Thrills and whilst the single went into the charts at number 26, the album charted well at number 2.



10) Steps – What The Future Holds

This year also saw the pop band Steps return to the music scene with their sixth studio album What The Future Holds and that is exactly what the lead single is called as well. It was released in early September and went into the top 10 of the UK Singles Downloads Charts.
