We were the guinea pig year – we were the year that if there was a new exam technique or a new lesson style we were the year that got to have it tested on. We were also the year when the school decided to take the media students to New York for a trip when everyone else used to go to France.
The trip was five days long and we would go and see all the sights and everything galore. We were put up in a hotel it had about five beds in a room – I think it was a low level hotel but I am sure it wasn’t a hostel – to be fair I have no idea but it did have a kitchen and a sitting area upstairs so it probably was comes to think about it.
The teachers would make us go to our rooms at a reasonable time and we were not allowed to leave them after we had been sent to them – but being the middle aged teenagers that we were, we all used to give it about 20 minutes and then sneak out to the bit upstairs where the seating area was.
There was a few other groups of people that were staying in the hotel the same time that we were – i don’t remember much about them, but I remember they were from Texas and they played cards all the time we saw them.
There was one night – where we bumped into them and they were passing around vodka – i think we all had a sip from what I can remember but I do remember the random events that happened next. When we were upstairs there was one point when Two of my friends at the time Jake and Daisy got given the bottle of vodka by the random Texan with glasses. When they had it in their hands he told to run and he would chase them.
The whole evening they were using the lift to go to different floors to run away from the man whilst he chased after them for his bottle. Some of the floors of the hotel were dark and damp and looked like a scene out of a horror film. It is one of the most random scenes I have seen but it creates one good memory.
