Last week. quirky comedian The Boy With Tape on his Face, announced to the world on Twitter and Facebook that he was set to appear on the new season of Americas Got Talent and last night he made his debut to the American audience.
If you haven’t heard of The Boy With Tape on His Face then let me just give you a mini overview of who he is. Real name Sam Wills, he is originally from New Zealand but moved to Britain in 2008. He has won a variety of awards for his comedy including Best Breakthrough Act at the Chortle comedy awards in 2011. Here is an interview he did with ComComedy all about The Boy.
Last night on AGT, the Boy stunned the judges when he walked on stage not being able to answer any of the questions that were thrown at him with the host Nick Cannon telling the camera “I’m a Little araid now I don’t know what’s going to happen.”
He performed two of his most iconic scenes the one with the oven mitts singing a duet and another where he danced with himself to lady in Red. The audience were so impressed with the unique performance that he got a standing ovation and with Simon Cowell complimenting the fact he likes the fact they know nothing about him and that he was “clever, unique and brilliant.”
Its not the first time that an act that is popular in the comedy circuit in the United Kingdom has gone to the United States and wowed at this talent show, a great example is the fantastic acts that approached the stage last year and even lead to one of them winning the crown. I am of course talking about Magic Comedian Piff the Magic Dragon and Winner Paul Zerdin.
They both took America by storm last year as they were so unique with their acts that the country had never seen anything like them before and it looks like The Boy is about to do the same. Will the American crown be stolen again by another act that is big in Britain? We will have to wait and see but here at the Phoenix we reckon that he is a strong contender.
