Tell Us about:
Your latest single you have released:
Mirrors
Your favourite lyric in this song:
I look at mirrors that remember more than me
Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:
Paper Walls
Your favourite song to play live:
Dominos of Blood. It’s so pop that people don’t catch the message live.
The song that was the longest to write and why?
Unfinished Wood: I was layering so many guitar tracks and vocals, then deleting them, then adding new ones and trying to do too much in post-production. I couldn’t get it to sound how I heard it in my head for a long time.
One of the previous tracks that you would recommend to first-time listeners of your music
“Unfinished Wood.” It has a little something that all the other songs have at some point, but I have a back catalog spanning three decades and hundreds of songs. So I really recommend people dive in or even just reach out to me and ask for a recommendation based on what they like.
Dream collaboration:
Walter Schreifels or Ian MacKay
Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:
Pure anxiety and exhilaration.
The track that is most fun to play live:
When the World Goes Quiet because it slows things down and brings a bit of intimacy to an otherwise loud and ruckus set.
Essential items you always take on tour with you?
A good pillow. Floors and couches can really suck, but a good pillow can make it all better.
Describe your fans in three words:
Honest. Reflective. Resilient
A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:
Cosmonaughts by Quicksand. It’s so hauntingly beautiful and still heavy, with great lyrics and a sort of experimental feel above it all.
What we can look forward to from your band this year:
A move from flipping genres and desperate-sounding sounds and styles to a unified instantly recognizable Fickle Hill sound.
