Tell Us about:

Your latest single you have released:

My latest single is called Figure It Out. It’s about not letting yourself—or other people—stand in the way of the choices you want to make in life. It’s about trusting yourself, following your own path and not allowing outside opinions to hold you back

Your favourite lyric in this song:

My favourite lyric is, “It’s best to keep the high balls low.” I love it because it’s such a true statement for so many people, and I think it reflects the overall meaning of the song really well. Sometimes you need to keep things in perspective and not let life become more complicated than it needs to be.

Your favourite song that you have created that is an album track:

It’s really hard to choose just one, but I’d probably say Walls Come Down because of what that song means to me personally. I’d also have to mention Blame Myself because it feels like such a big song. They’re both favourites for completely different reasons.

Your favourite song to play live:

My favourite song to play live is one I wrote called That’s the Thing. It’s a really upbeat song and always gets a great reaction from the crowd. You can feel the energy change when you start playing it, which makes it so much fun to perform

The song that was the longest to write and why?

Only You definitely took the longest to finish. Kyle and I changed the lyrics and structure quite a few times, and I had already made a lot of changes to it myself before that. Altogether, it took around three years before it finally felt completely finished. I think taking that time helped us get the song exactly where it needed to be.

One of your previous tracks you would recommend for first time listeners of your music and why?

I’d recommend Figure It Out because I think it gives people a really good introduction to my writing style and the overall sound I’ve gone for on this album. It represents where I’m at as an artist right now.

Dream collaboration:

It would have to be either Lewis Capaldi or YUNGBLUD. They’re very different artists, but I love what they both do and I think working with either of them would be unreal.

Describe the feeling you get when you walk on stage to do a show:

The feeling is unreal. You’ve got excitement, nerves and adrenaline all running through your body at 100% at exactly the same time. It can feel intense, but as soon as I start playing, the nerves turn into energy. There’s nothing else quite like it.

The track that is most fun to play live:

Bird at the Top is probably the most fun because it’s such a flexible song. I can play around with different melodies and chord shapes, so every performance can feel slightly different. It gives me a bit of freedom onstage and keeps it exciting.

Essential items you always take on tour with you?

Deodorant, chewing gum, a hairbrush and my phone. Clothes and all that unneeded stuff come later!

Describe your fans in three words:

Loyal, supportive and beautiful.

A song released in the last few years by an artist or band you wish you had written:

Zombie by YUNGBLUD. I think it’s such a great song all round—the lyrics, the emotion and the way it builds. It’s one of those songs I heard and immediately wished I’d written myself.

What we can look forward to from your band this year:

There’s plenty more music on the way, including tracks from my album that I’m really excited for people to hear. I’ll also be playing more live shows and developing my sound as I go. This year is really about introducing people to who I am as an artist and showing them what I’ve been working on.
