DEEP FRIED RATTLESNAKE

In Apache, Oklaholma, there is an event held annually called the Rattlesnake Festival. Today we are looking at a delicacy that is popular at the event.

There is a stand that is held by the community kitchen. The aim of this is create a stall where everything that is purchased, all the proceeds go to the charity that organises the festival.

Their popular dish is deep fried rattlesnake. Before it can be cooked it has to be prepared first. There is a big bone in the middle of the snake that needs to be cut through to create the portions.

Once this is done it is put into a liquid batter – this is made from onion and batter that had come from Oklahoma. Once it has been coated it this is is then placed in a crumb mixture of two different varieties. It is then cooled.

It is a popular dish at the festival as it celebrates the rattlesnake.
