Hello! Tell us all about your show!
BRENDAN: It’s a fast-paced comedy retelling of the original Indiana Jones trilogy, as lovingly cobbled together by a trio of budding British amateur archaeologists. Think Monty Python meets Airplane if it was staged in your local town hall.
DAN: Well Brendan’s hit the nail right on the head here, I don’t know what’s left to add? Guess I should add ‘Arks that melt your face’ ‘Hearts being ripped from chests’ ‘biplane dog fights in the air’ and so so many snakes! If nothing else this might be the best value ticket in Edinburgh this year!
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
BRENDAN: I think I’m probably contractually obliged to mention Dan’s other show, Mr. Thing, which is consistently one of the funniest shows of the Fringe! I also can’t wait to see Anna Leong-Brophy’s debut solo show, Born Sexy Yesterday, and Rosie Holt’s The Illegal Aliens Have Landed!
DAN: Well right back at you Mr Murphy, can’t wait to see ‘Kool story Bro’ featuring the greatest improviser of the modern world Brendan Murphy! I’d also add ‘Biff to the future’ and Rosie Holts new play ‘Churchills Urinal’ both very funny, must see shows, and this is in no way bias just because I directed them!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
BRENDAN: This will actually be my 12th Fringe, meaning I’ve technically spent a full year up here! Best advice is probably also the most basic – enjoy it! Eat, sleep, look after yourself and don’t put too much stock in the reviews (good or bad)
DAN: This year marks 21 years since I did my first Fringe (maybe it’s time someone took me out to a nice field to fallow.). My biggest piece of advice is to remember that the Fringe is a marathon, not a sprint. Pace yourself. There’ll be great reviews, terrible reviews, sell-outs, and panicked mornings flyering on the Royal Mile because your audience count for the day is two.
Take the highs and lows in your stride, and remember; the fact that you’re performing at the biggest international Fringe festival in the world already means you’re winning.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
BRENDAN: Coffee, shower, eggs, coffee, gym, sandwich, coffee, show, beer, show, beer, falafel, bed. Insert nap or small cry depending on which week of the fringe we’re on.DAN
DAN: This year will be a bit different for me as my partner Becky and 18 month son Mikey will be staying with me through out a lot of the festival! So I’ll be trading late night cocktails at the abattoir for early morning kids shows at the Pleasance! And do you know what, I’m so excited to see the festival through his eyes. That being said…if anyone’s looking for a bit of babysitting work, please get in touch!
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
BRENDAN: Kilimanjaro for the full Scottish breakfast!
DAN: The Mosque Kitchen, head round the back to their festival tent. Massive, flavorful portions of curry and rice at the best prices in Edinburgh. Perfect for that mid festival energy pick up!
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
BRENDAN: The friends we make along the way… JUST KIDDING. It’s the lanyards. I’ll be doing INDY! at Gilded Balloon and Kool Story Bro at The Pleasance, so all I need is an Underbelly and an Assembly pass and I’ll be able to construct the Fringe Infinity Gauntlet and become absolutely insufferable for the course of the month.DAN
DAN: It’s the one month a year where sleep, dignity and financial stability all become optional artistic choices and I wouldn’t want it any other way!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
BRENDAN: The most special thing I bring is an open heart… JUST KIDDING. It’s lanyards (obviously). I’ll be bringing all my old lanyards from Fringes past to try to pass them off as 2026 lanyards. Sometimes it’ll work and you get in places for free, sometimes you get rumbled and people cotton on to the scam. Either way, I’m rocking a whole lot of plastic.
DAN: I’m going to have to say my son? He’s pretty special! I’ll be having him watching Brendan very closely…and then replacing him at the earliest opportunity. Soon my family empire will be complete and no one can stop me! ‘Insert manic evil laughter here’.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
BRENDAN: Did I mention lanyards already? Apart from that, I’d say MEAL DEALS. DAN: I’m going to steal Brendan’s lanyards.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
BRENDAN: Check out @IndyTheShow & http://www.IndyTheShow.com for everything you need to know about our new show, INDY! (the show).
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
BRENDAN: Nazis get punched
