Hello! Tell us all about your show!
Character comedian Rob Preston just wants everything to be perfect again. Join him and his unlikely cadre of alter-egos on their quest to dominate the content space, end mental health and bring lasting international peace to the entirety of the globe globally, A big ask? Sure. But someone’s got to pull their finger out.
The show is a character comedy hour capturing the bizarre isolated figures of modern Britain. The show follows a young pub quiz host trying to heal the world, along the way, we encounters a series of characters all with their own unique outlooks on the problems facing the UK, they include: Jacques De Klerk, the slick CEO of influencer marketing agency VibesTalent; Gregory Onions, a former Royal Marine turned motivational speaker; and Pieter Verkels, a Belgian dating coach, among others.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
I think there’s going to be some amazing debuts this year. I’m particularly excited to see Dom McGovern, Maia Tassalini, Em Humble, Emmeline Downie & Marty Gleeson. I’m also excited to see some theatre; Target Audience & Rockpools in particular! I also hope to see something strange and unsettling, either in a fringe setting or just generally around the place.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I did two fringe runs in 2018 and 2019 in a student sketch comedy group and was in the play Brainsluts last year for a full run too after 6 years of no fringe. I think my main piece of advice would be to take it easy for the first week or two – don’t tire yourself out, don’t feel like you need to see everything straight away. Then for the last two weeks, make a value judgement; is this going well or badly? If well then ensure consistency, if badly, throw some curve balls, burn some bridges, try something new out.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
Wake up. Pray on my haters’ downfalls’. Morning scroll – TikTok, Instagram, YouTube. Sudoku for sharpness. 4x4km at a 4:05/km pace. Visualise excellence. Overnight oats. Faff about til showtime. Perform show. Snus in immediately, 2 beers if good show, no beers if bad show. Bed.
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Walking between two venues.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Learning once and for all from a large sample size which of your jokes is complete rubbish.
Getting to have a laugh for a month, even with the economy the way it is.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
My lucky toothbrush, and lucky medical shampoo.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Meal prep. Prepare all your lunches for the entire Fringe on day one. Some sort of dry unrottable paste that isn’t impacted by heat, oxygen or time.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@robpreston_comedy on Instagram and TikTok. They can also ask me in person. I’m an open book, and the chapter is called ‘I’d love to speak with you.’
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
Amazing Global Solutions.
