Hello! Tell us all about your show!

Let’s twist again! is our second show, after The Black Blues Brothers. We are a group of 5 Kenyan acrobats and we have been touring the world with these productions: over 1,000 dates and 650,000 spectators in over 20 countries.

Here’s the synopsis: in a train station waiting room, five men, all dressed in Humphrey Bogart-style trench coats, are waiting. For a train? For a person? To kill time, they listen to twist and rock’n’roll music on a vintage jukebox and try to call their girls on the phone, but these twin passions for music and love make the group miss their train! How can they fix things? With incredible stunts, which exploit everything around them for breathtaking acts: tables, chairs… even the level crossings!

Let’s twist again! is an acrobatic musical comedy show, with an unforgettable soundtrack, which draws on the golden age of American music and features new, rousing and, why not, romantic acrobatic sequences. Memorable hit s such as Twistin’ the night away, Blue Moon, Just a gigolo and songs by the best Americ an performers, like Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Chubby Checker, Glenn Miller and Keith Emer son accompany a dynamic and fun repertoire of human pyramids, backflips, fire routines, rope stunts and much more!

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

There are so many shows to see that it’s hard to choose, but if you want to be sure, go see Circa’s shows; they always have something special.

We’re very curious about Afronauts: the theme seems interesting, and we want to meet the Circus Zambia artists.

Switching genres entirely: a show you must see at least once in your life is Garry Starr: Classic Penguins. It’s unique and hilarious. No spoilers, but you won’t forget it.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

This is our sixth year at the Fringe! In 2019, we brought our first show, The Black Blues Brothers, and then last year we debuted Let’s Twist Again! in the beautiful McEwan Hall.

I have to say, the Edinburgh audience is wonderful; they’ve always welcomed us with enthusiasm, with standing ovations and five-star reviews.

The first piece of advice we’d like to give to those coming to the Fringe for the first time is: don’t panic. Edinburgh is a huge machine that’s difficult to understand, and it often feels overwhelmed. It’s the same for everyone, and if knowing this doesn’t solve the situation, it at least makes you feel less alone.

The second piece of advice is: find the right venue for your show and trust its staff. Building a great relationship with them is the foundation for working well and with peace of mind.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Our show is in the afternoon (this year, it’s every day at 5 pm, always at McEwan Hall), so we spend the morning relaxing, perhaps with a hearty breakfast. In the early afternoon, we head to the venue and start warming up and checking that all the details of the sets and costumes are in place. Often, a few hours before the show, we go out to hand out flyers, making it fun, performing little acrobatics on the Royal Mile or near the Meadows to catch the attention of passersby. That’s a show, too!

After the show, we always try to go see shows by other companies: being at the Fringe gives you the opportunity to meet artists from all over the world; it’s an opportunity not to be missed. In the evening, we rest, take stock for the following days, and then go to bed early. The next day, we start again!

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Since we’re a group of five acrobats, I’d say 5 guys! They make excellent burgers. When we want a more elegant dinner, we’re fond of Elements. Last year we discovered Beirut, a Lebanese restaurant; we highly recommend it!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

Beyond being at the most important festival in the world, potentially in front of agents and directors from every nation, the extraordinary thing about Edinburgh is the audience: they scream, celebrate, dance with us. Every day we experience a wave of emotion that recharges us.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

Each of us has our own way of remembering home: some with a necklace, some with a photo… but we all would want to bring Kenyan food! Luckily, there’s a Kenyan community in Edinburgh who has “adopted” us and often invites us over for meals.

What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?

The Fringe is a marathon, and if you’re not careful, it’s easy to go over your budget. Where possible, you should book your accommodation MONTHS in advance and make sure you have access to a kitchen so you don’t have to eat out all the time.

If you’re reasonably fit, Edinburgh is a city where you can get around on foot without having to take public transport.
