If there is one thing that fascinates me about improv and that is how it is portrayed in Television, books and Film. This is becoming more and more apparent in recent years because the comedy art form is sort of in fashion. There are some interesting topics that we can gain from these ways they are displayed so every so often we are going to look at different scenes from different shows and films.
When it comes to Taskmaster, it always provides gold for this series of articles. The last time we spoke about Taskmaster it was in a negative perspective – well I have good news for you – today is positive and actually looking at a game the played that could be used as a fun warm up in rehearsal. Today we are heading back to an older season as I rewatched it recently and cannot believe I missed talking about it.
In season 11, episode 2 the teams have to have an argument. Taking it in turns to angrily make a point using no more then ten words. Always ending a point with a different four letter word.
I think this is a great game for a warm up as it brings up the energy, makes you focus on words and also allows you to have fun. Games like this are great as it gets you in the zone for improv whilst also having a laugh at the same time.
Look at the two groups in Taskmaster – they both have completely different ways of approaching the task which both highlight that there are endless possibilities. This means that it makes it a great warm up game.
