Sunday Book Club: In Venezuela, Michael Palin

Every Sunday we are taking a look at the world of books. I read a lot and always want to share my opinions on what I read, so I thought it would be fun to write reviews. Today we are looking at the most recent adventure by Michael Palin.

In Venezuela (2025)

Michael Palin

Synopsis

In February 2025, Michael Palin travelled to Venezuela to get a sense of what life is like in one of South America’s most culturally rich, vibrant but also troubled nations. In the journal he kept during his trip he gives a vivid account of the towns and cities he visited, the landscapes he travelled through, and the people he met.

Illustrated throughout with colour photographs taken on the trip, and permeated with his warmth and humour, this is a vivid and varied portrait of a complex country.

Positive Points

This is a really insightful read and it is a book that provides you with a lot of information about Venezuela. There are a lot of photographs throughout the book which means that you also get to visually see the places that Michael Palin went on his travels.

Negative Points

The one factor that I did not like about this book was that it was a lot shorter then his other books which felt like a disappointment.

Overall Review

It is a really fascinating book with some nail biting stories at time, I would not say it was his best diaries that he has written on his adventures but there are a lot of things that are interesting because it is about a country where there is not much about it.
