Welcome To Taste of States a place where we celebrate the weird and wonderful food of the United States of America. This can be everything from the snacks that are available for a limited time to the foods that are classic traditions at events such as Christmas and Thanksgiving! Each week we will explore the facts and the history surrounding a different food.
THE FAMILY DOG
Today we are heading to the Stanislaus County Fair in Turlock California to look at a snack that was available here. Before we look at the treat, let’s take a look at the Fair.
The Stanislaus County Fair takes place mid July – it is home to carnival rides, livestock, arts and crafts and of course the food stands. The item I am going to talk to you about today is a gigantic create that was created by the food stall Monster Grill.
The Family Dog is 18 inches long and is meant to be enjoyed by more then one person but with it being America, it has been known for only one person to eat it.
Three regular sized hot dogs are placed on a stick, they are then drenched in batter. The batter is created from wheat flour, corn flour, sugar, egg white and then all mixed together.
Once the dog has been dipped, it then is put in the fryer for three minutes. Whilst it is cooking, commercially prepared curly fries go into the fryer – so many that they fill the whole fryer tray and stick together. The chips are placed on a plate, topped with the Family Dog and then a lot of mustard and ketchup.
The reviews I have found about this product praise it for being delicious and even one person said that they would be happy to eat the whole thing on their own!
