Hello! Tell us about yourself?
My name is Gianmarco Soresi and I’m a failed actor turned stand-up comedian. I should have done Fringe when I was much younger but I’ll be mustering up the strength to do one week this summer.
Tell us all about your show!
It’s a mix of the best jokes I’ve been working on, whatever strikes my fancy in Edinburgh, and I’m sure a little bit of crowd work. It’s different each time but I would expect some conversation about my father’s dating life, my girlfriend’s cilantro gene, and how we’re all just frogs in boiling water.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
This is my first time so I’m honestly down for whatever. I’ve had a recent obsession with clowning recently and hopefully will get that out of my system ASAP. You can definitely catch me at a couple Stamptown’s I’m sure.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I did the New York Fringe Festival back in the day (2014, I believe) and while I’m sure both festivals are quite different, I imagine they’re similarly chaotic. We’ll see how my body takes it now that I’m in my 30’s.
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I tour most of the year so for me the greatest part of the festival is getting to spend time with other performers I rarely get to see and who I’m immense fans of.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
When I’m on the road, I try being the most boring human being every morning
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
We’ll see but I saw Natalie Palamides post a picture from a restaurant in Edinburgh last year and I haven’t forgotten about it. Don’t know the name or cuisine but I will be there come hell or high water.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
My show’s at 3PM every day so for the first time in a very long time I’ll be completely free at night to get drunk and see shows.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
My show is at f****** 3PM.
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I bring a book that I’ve spent the last year or so swearing I’m going to start reading one of these days.
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
I will be losing money on this run and I’ve come to terms with that.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Laptop, passport, book you won’t read and will never read and dear god why do you lie to yourself like this you’re certainly not going to suddenly become a reader in the middle of an arts festival of all places
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Build enough of a social media following that you don’t have to do it. And also do the festival for just a week.
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
I’m everywhere @gianmarcosoresi
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
AmericanStand-UpComics are funnier
