Hello! Tell us about yourself?
Standup comedian, from Ireland, grumpy optimist. I have made every dating mistake, actually every life mistake so now you don’t have to! I love men but I decenter them #lovemenbutdecenterthem!
Tell us all about your show!
One night my sister was waiting for a text back … from a boy (surprise surprise! It’s never your granny is it?) nothing compares to the exquisite agony of being in that state! You’re hand on your phone like a John waynes on his gun, ready to strike! We decided that night to write a play about that feeling of waiting and the reasons behind it, but unlike every other plan we’d made after 9pm, we actually did it because now I was sober for a year and sure, what else would I be doing!
It’s been described as “Bridget Jones meets Baby Reindeer” and it’s hilarious as well as touching
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Ella Etta Eartha by Melissa Western form Jazz Vibes, Deirdre O’ Kane, Daniel Kitson and David O’ Doherty and that’s just the D’s ! I could go on for hours!
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
Don’t drink every night, wear sunscreen even in Edinburgh you still get that Scotch Burn, don’t compare yourself to other performers
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
12 step korean skincare routine 24 step meditation and 48 step yoga session!
I jest! I will be doing three shows and other spots in between Edinburgh for me is a comedy summer camp but I don’t drink and i do go swimming so that will keep me head from turing into a jellied eel i hope
Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?
Mosque Kitchen, The Balmoral for getting a coffee and hiding from the festival in plain sight – it’s very fancy and there are plenty of chargers and sometimes they give you free nuts
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Meeting lots of people you know all the time
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
Meeting lots of people you know all the time!
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
I’ll bring my sobriety chip – all going well I will celebrate 3 years of sobriety during the festival and i will be able to trade my 2 year chip for my 3 year one!
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
I use a great accommodation app – it’s like airbnb but it’s free – tinder!
That was my old tip but those days are gone – not drinking is the biggest saver you can make, (yes i am that pain in the arse)
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Waterproofs, comfy shoes, stuff to record your gigs that’s portable
what’s the secret to successful flyering?
Look at flyering like making friends, target the people who look like they might actually like your show, (don’t approach the stressed mormon family if your show is called “satanic sex wand” for example) chatting and getting to know people for a bit is easier than giving out flyers like you would at a car wash and you’ll get people who will be intersted
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
@comedymcqueen on instagram is the best with a few videos and comedy datees
And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
It’s painfully relatable for men and women it’s painfully funny and it’s got a lot of heart and a really uplifting ending
