Hello! Tell us about yourself?

I am an Irish comedian based in London. Irish people are allergic to boasting about ourselves, but I have an Edinburgh show to sell so I am going to whore myself out here. I won the BBC Galton & Simpson award for comedy writing. I have TWO podcasts, Fad Camp (Irish Podcast Awards – Best Entertainment Podcast 2023) and The Jump. And my debut Edinburgh show ‘Tall Baby’ was named one of Rolling Stone magazine’s ’12 stand-out shows of the Edinburgh Fringe 2024′. So basically some people think I’m funny.

Tell us all about your show!

The show is all about how I think people are s*** at funerals. Everyone gets so awkward, and they don’t know what to say. Honestly, I think funerals are better craic than weddings and I am here to teach people how to not be terrible at them. I am considered the Death Queen by my mates. Irish people are better at dealing with it than most, but my family take it a step further. My dad would casually read his Will over lunch at Yo! Sushi and my mum takes such a good funeral selfie she should teach a class. This show is darkly funny but also joyful. I explore existential dread, professional funeral planning, and why society losing their minds over gender-neutral toilets might actually be about death.

What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?

Alison Spittle, Roger O’Sullivan, Marise Gaughan, Caroline McEvoy and Jessie Nixon. They’re all so good it’s annoying.

Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.

I debuted at the Fringe last year so my experience is fresh in my mind. Advice to all comedians out there, you will cry in public at least once a week. Luckily locals are used to seeing tear-soaked comedians no one will bate an eyelid. Openly weep and then buy yourself a bag of chips and get onstage. Also have fun.

Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe

Wake up. Stare at the ceiling and consider my life choices. Sit at the side of my bed and consider my life choices. Boil the kettle for a coffee and consider my life choices. Flyer for my show and consider my life choices. Do the show. If it goes well, walk the streets of Edinburgh like I own the place. If it doesn’t, walk the streets of Edinburgh having an existential crisis. Go see a show and get inspired. Go hang out with other performers and be happy I get to be part of this incredible festival. Go to bed and consider my life choices.

Ok, where is your favourite place to eat at the Fringe?

Viet Street, it has unbelievable pho!

Best thing about performing at the fringe?

You become a better, more accomplished and confident performer.

What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?

It’s like a marathon and eventually you get worn out.

Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?

Barrys Tea – it is the best tea ever. I shall fight anyone who says different.

What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?

Good walking shoes. A backpack. And a notebook.

If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?

I am on Instagram (gracemulveycomedy) and Tik Tok (@gracemcomedy)

And Finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?

Irish. Death. Funny.
