Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I am a middle-aged actor/writer/producer from Australia. My best friend and I wrote a musical about finding passion and purpose at any age and it’s been a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Tell us all about your show!
All Fired Up follows Tammy Tooth who is in the middle of a mid-life crisis… a quirk of fate sends her back to 1987 where she comes face to face with her 15-year-old self, recording songs off the radio.
Through time spent with her younger self she realises what is missing from her life and comes back to 2025 to become a 1980’s aerobics instructor. We have a 5-piece band on stage cranking out 16 hits of the 1980’s.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
Honestly, I haven’t even looked yet – the logistics of bringing 10 people over from Australia is bending my brain at the moment – but I love me some British stand up.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe.
I brought a show to Edinburgh in 1999 with my boyfriend at the time (who is now my husband) and now I am bringing our daughter to perform – my advice would be – don’t use a fax machine to book your venue and accommodation… there is a thing called the internet now and it is heaps easier and you don’t have to wait until midnight to talk to someone.
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to the Edinburgh vibe… a pumping thriving creative city where the arts are alive. My time at the fringe has been one of the highlights of my life, so I’m hoping to make another one.
Talk us through your daily routine for a day at the Fringe
I’m going to base this on my younger self from 25 years ago and roughly week 3 of the fringe – (whether I can keep up the stamina is yet to be seen.) Sleep in till 9am, fried breakfast (possible black pudding and haggis because I’m age 25 and in Scotland).
Buy The Scotsman – read the “page of Shame” (please tell me it still exists), walk up the Royal Mile – soak in the vibe, 11am see a show in the front row and fall asleep (because I’ve been going too hard). Lunch at a funky vegetarian cafe at Grassmarket (is it still there?). Go secondhand shopping at that amazing shop I think was called Armstrongs – buy a leather jacket which is amazing for Edinburgh but stupid for a tropical place like Cairns. Go back to accommodation for a nap.
Wake up, shower, make up, hair and walk to venue… perform show and then go wherever the wind takes us… comedy, bars, cabaret, pub, a show or two at the Traverse. Try out this new drink called Redbull. Have it with vodka. Have 10 of them. Home by 1ish. Repeat x 28 days.
Best thing about performing at the fringe?
Being part of the community of international artists – it’s the best.
What is the hardest part about performing at the Fringe?
Bums on seats
Do you bring anything special from home to make it feel more special whilst you are away?
Do my daughter and best friend count?
What are your best hacks to save money whilst at the Fringe?
Save up now and take as much money as you can – you are going to haemorrhage money but you will never regret it.
What would be your top three items every performer must take to the fringe?
Ear plugs so you can sleep even if your accommodation has a building site next to it.
Steroids or some incredibly potent elixir that will ensure you go on every night.
Good walking shoes.
What’s the secret to successful flyering?
I wouldn’t give away that secret even if I did know!
If people want to find out more about you where can they follow you on social media?
Instagram … allfiredup80’s
And finally in three words – Why should people come and see the show?
