Hello! Tell us about yourself?
I am a second-generation Los Angeles native. I was originally trained as an actor and spent 10 years
working in regional theater, film and television in the United States. I then transitioned to writing, at first
writing and selling numerous screenplays and television pilot scripts. After the spec screenplay market in Hollywood virtually disappeared, I turned back to my first love, the theater. I’ve had plays produced in Los Angeles, Canada, Palm Springs and New York City.
Tell us all about your show!
As someone who grew up a rabid James Bond fan, as well as being sober for over three decades, I thought
the idea of a Bond-like spy going to rehab for all his vices would not only be a fun spoof of the genre it would also provide a relevant commentary on the kind of toxic masculinity those movies originally exemplified.
The play is both a love letter to those movies, as well as other 1960s spy films and TV shows and my devotion to recovery.
What other acts are you looking forward to seeing at the fringe?
SPY MOVIE (For obvious reasons), which sounds like a great spoof, as well as HOLD ON TO YOUR
BUTTS, ROWLING IT IN and FLY YOU FOOLS, all of which sound like they are lampooning popular
movies.
Have you done the fringe before? What are the key pieces of advice you have been given or would give to new groups or people performing at the fringe
.
No I never have. It’s funny, because when I was in college (back in the stone age), my theater department
would go to the Fringe festival every summer and I never went. Then years later I saw footage of Eddie
Izzard doing street comedy and felt I had missed out. The advice I got was to get in early and make sure we
took care of marketing, getting the space and housing. I’m sure once I’ve been there I will have plenty of
advice!!!
If this is your first time – what are you looking forward to?
I am looking forward to the madness and excitement of being amongst so many talented and diverse performers and projects. Most of all, I am looking forward to sharing our play with the festival, as I think it has the perfect sensibility of the festival.
